Programmed by the Scène Nationale d’Orléans with the performance Soufflette, Carte Blanche is the Norwegian national contemporary dance company. Two of the company’s fourteen dancers, Caroline Eckly and Mathias Stoltenberg, offer a workshop based on this production, choreographed by the French artist François Chaignaud.
Carte Blanche – the Norwegian National Company of Contemporary Dance – was founded in 1989. Based in Bergen, it is today one of the Scandinavian companies most often performing on the international scene. Composed of 14 international dancers, the company relies on the technical quality of its performers, their personality and their incredible creativity, enabling the wide range of interpretations and aesthetics necessary to maintaining the diversity of its repertoire. This reputation and flexibility is a seductive asset for renowned choreographers, but also for a whole new generation of talent.
Under the recent artistic direction of French choreographer Annabelle Bonnéry, the company commissions works from choreographers who are committed to social issues and who can express them through dance. It looks for artists who are concerned with the intersection of diverse artistic disciplines. Each season, new creations are produced and older ones are re-staged. In this way, Carte Blanche creates an exciting, unique, high quality repertoire, supporting the goal of being pioneering, innovative and contributing to the development of contemporary dance in Norway and abroad.
Carte Blanche is funded by the Ministry of Culture, Hordaland County Council and the City of Bergen.
