This workshop – presented in anticipation of the performance A Leaf – is rooted in the premises that it is not so much a question of singing as of giving voice, and that the voice is first and foremost a physical phenomenon. Physical like a current of air, rising sap, a lunar eclipse, a sunburst, an aurora borealis, melting snow, an earthquake, a will-o’-the-wisp, a forest fire, the fleeting flare of an asteroid, a planet hurtling through an uncertain cosmos. The bel canto of the Anthropocene.
Olivier Normand, dancer, actor, singer.
After studying modern literature, Olivier Normand studied contemporary dance in the program ex.e.r.ce (directed by Mathilde Monnier and Xavier Le Roy) at the Centre Chorégraphique National de Montpellier, and the program Transforme at the Abbaye de Royaumont (directed by Myriam Gourfink). He also studied acting and opera singing at the Conservatoires Régionaux de Montpellier. Since 2007, he has performed for Mathilde Monnier, Alain Buffard, Fanny de Chaillé, Béatrice Massin, Joris Lacoste, Bruno Geslin, Lorenzo de Angelis, Hélène Rocheteau, Emilie Rousset, and Eszter Salamon. He completed a Master’s thesis on Vaslav Nijinsky at the University of Paris 8. Recently, he undertook a writing project on the performer’s profession: “Sous le regard, essai sur le désir de scène”. He has also written pieces with a strong musical dimension for ICI, L’Artificier and Récital.
