With Corinne Garcia
In Publique, Mathilde Monnier invokes, through the music of P.J. Harvey, female dance as primarily experiential, an experience summoning memories and superimposing a set of contradictory movements without hierarchy, ranging from virtuosity to banality, from sensuality to rock music.
Mathilde Monnier has been involved in choreography since 1984. Her artistic enquiries are linked to choreographing movement in relationship to broader issues such as “what we share”, and the relationship to music and memory. Her performances including Pour Antigone, Déroutes, Les lieux de là, Surrogate cities, Soapéra, and Twin paradox have been featured on the most important international stages and festivals. She alternates creating projects she signs alone with co-signed projects encountering different figures from the art world: Katerine, Christine Angot, La Ribot, Heiner Goebbels…. She headed the CCN de Montpellier from 1994 to 2013 and then from 2014 to 2019 the French National Center for Dance.
Corinne Garcia danced for many years with Mathilde Monnier, and then with Emmanuelle Huynh, Déborah Hay, Maria La Ribot, Thierry Baé, Maud Le Pladec and Fabrice Lambert. She was assistant to Maria La Ribot, Emmanuelle Hyunh, Maud Le Pladec and Mathilde Monnier. She teaches at the CNDs of Lyon and Paris, at Nouveaux Subsistances, at the CNSMD of Lyon, at Lieues, Ramdam, and the CCNs of Rillieux-la-Pape, Montpellier and Caen. She trained in the Feldenkrais™ method with Yvan Joly. For 10 years, she has been teaching the Feldenkrais™ method, founding the association Motus Inhabitus.
